Frequently Asked Questions

When should i contact a lawyer?

You should consult a lawyer prior to any major life change, such as getting married, moving in with a new partner, or separation. You should also consult with a lawyer if you have been served with legal documents, or have been charged with a crime.

what do i do if i have been served with a divorce or family law application?

You should immediately check if the documents reference any upcoming court dates. You must attend every court date, either yourself, or represented by your lawyer. If you do not attend, the other party may be granted what they are requesting in your absence.

should i get a prenuptial or cohabitation agreement?

Absolutely. We recommend a prenuptial or cohabitation agreement for all couples, regardless of financial status or property. A prenuptial or cohabitation agreement ensures that both parties are entering the next phase of the relationship fully apprised of the other party’s expectations, and facilitates an open, honest conversation about the exciting next steps ahead.

do you offer a free consultation?

For potential clients, we offer a free thirty minute consultation at our office, with the lawyer to best suit your individual needs.

If your consultation will require more than 30 minutes, we provide a 60 minute consultation for a fee of $125.00.

do i really need a will?

Whether or not you own property, have children, are married, divorced, or in any phase of life, you should have a current Will, Personal Directive and Power of Attorney.

These documents set out your instructions for your health care and financial needs should you be unable to give those instructions. Having current estate documents ensures your wishes are carried out.

do you accept legal aid files?

Yes. We would be pleased to assist you with your Legal Aid matter. We believe that every Albertan should have vigorous, skillful legal representation and we strive to provide that to all of our clients.

do you have experience at the court of appeal?

We certainly do. We would be pleased to consult with you on your appeal matter.

do you accept walk-ins at your office?

Our lawyers are constantly in court litigating for our clients, so we are not able to accept walk-ins. We don’t want you to come to our offices and be disappointed that you can’t meet us.

Please make an appointment, call or email our paralegal Danielle and she can assist you with booking an appointment with one of our lawyers.
